For the most part in History, wheels were made of wood and pushed by animals. In little more than a hundred years, we have gone from the first artisanal assembly workshops to robotised mega-factories, from iron to steel and aluminium. We have stopped turning levers and now ask cars where to go for coffee. Progress is never an upward straight line, but a series of abrupt steps. That is why remaining on the crest of the automotive wave for 70 years is such a feat, especially when geography has placed us at one of the ends of the Eurasian continent. <\/p>\n

Companies like Rub\u00ed Automotive are at the basis of every engineering idea. We build the parts with which engineers and industrial designers manufacture their dreams. What began as an exercise in physical strength with oil presses that rang like bells across the streets of Vitoria, has become a European key player with automated plants and cutting-edge robotics. The vigour is the same, but we can now manufacture each piece much more precisely in a never-ending repetition. Our history is also plagued by blows and historical events that have shaped us for several generations. Early 1950s. <\/h4>\n

Entrepreneur Jos\u00e9 Mar\u00eda Chueca Recalde founds Decoletajes Rub\u00ed, a small company in \u00c9ibar (Guip\u00fazcoa, Basque Country) dedicated to turning machines: screws, nuts, shafts and other components used for spinning. They also made parts used in household appliances and the railway sector. A Catalan factory, Imosa, settles in Vitoria to manufacture the legendary and iconic DKW van (which later became part of Volkswagen) with a licence from the German manufacturer. More than 18,000 units were built at Imosa until 1960. During the first year, the factory assembled components made in Germany, but, from 1962 onwards, the production was almost entirely done in Spain. Citro\u00ebn\u2019s plant, later purchased by PSA and then Stellantis, was built in Vigo. 1960. Human and artisan strength.<\/h4>\n

At the time, production is geared towards supplying the incipient Spanish automobile industry. A new stamping line, the L 0, was created and turning machines were set to the side. Manpower efforts were enormous, with around 25 operators working in each line. As we will see in the following decades, automation radically changed the production system and quality standards in the sector. During these years, three lines were set up at full capacity, in three shifts, with around 250 workers. L1 was opened in 1964. Production is still very diversified in terms of customers and sectors, including food and rail. Spain opens its doors to major foreign industrial investment. For instance, the Authi joint venture is set up in Pamplona to manufacture two more legendary cars: the Mini and the Morris. Four years later, we become suppliers for both vehicles. Citro\u00ebn’s most iconic car at the time, the 2CV, is part of our portfolio. We manufacture spare parts (bonnets, bumpers…) using our own commercial

Consolidation of two key customers in the decades to come: Mercedes and Citro\u00ebn (Stellantis). The former with the first Mercedes MB van, and the latter with the best-selling C15 model. Change of strategy at the Mercedes Espa\u00f1a factory, eliminating in-house stamping and purchasing engines directly from the German parent company. Our contract grows and now involves supplying more and larger parts. Pablo Delgado is hired as the new CEO. His strategy is to stop devoting so much time and effort to spare parts and start manufacturing direct components for the leading automotive brands. The first progressive line arrives at Rub\u00ed, the 800-tonne L 4. The following year, the 400-tonne L 5, also progressive, was installed. Fagor L9, with a 2,000-tonne capacity, was installed: the first transfer and progressive press line. One year later, the L 11 is presented and used to manufacture the roofs, engine box and large parts of the VAN vehicle. Mercedes awards Rub\u00ed 30 percent of the NCV2 van. We start production in 2004. In this process, the large L 10 Tandem G1 arrives at the factory. Rub\u00ed goes one step further in the training of its engineers and their involvement in each project. 2004. IPM is born, Detesa is born.<\/h4>\n

Corporate changes take place. The IPM Group is created with four large investment companies. IPM creates a new company, Detesa, specialising in welding. Within two years, our welding and robotics know-how enabled us to produce car doors. Entrepreneur Jos\u00e9 Mar\u00eda Chueca Recalde founds Decoletajes Rub\u00ed, a small company in \u00c9ibar (Guip\u00fazcoa, Basque Country) dedicated to turning machines: screws, nuts, shafts and other components used for spinning. They also made parts used in household appliances and the railway sector. A Catalan factory, Imosa, settles in Vitoria to manufacture the legendary and iconic DKW van (which later became part of Volkswagen) with a licence from the German manufacturer. More than 18,000 units were built at Imosa until 1960. During the first year, the factory assembled components made in Germany, but, from 1962 onwards, the production was almost entirely done in Spain. 1960. Human and artisan strength.<\/h4>\n

At the time, production is geared towards supplying the incipient Spanish automobile industry. A new stamping line, the L 0, was created and turning machines were set to the side. Manpower efforts were enormous, with around 25 operators working in each line. As we will see in the following decades, automation radically changed the production system and quality standards in the sector. During these years, three lines were set up at full capacity, in three shifts, with around 250 workers. L1 was opened in 1964. Production is still very diversified in terms of customers and sectors, including food and rail.
